Basic Cabled Mittens

I made my first wearable mitten hahah yay!!!
It looks kinda weird in the pic but trust me it's cute.....
The pattern looks much harder than it is so don't freak out.... also i made some notes and changes which are indicated in purple italics ;) the biggest change is that i started with ribbing rather than starting the cable at the base of the mitten.... it's personal preference.

This is how they would look if you didn't want ribbing:
Basic Cabled Mittens
Materials:
Knitting Worsted Weight Yarn, 4 oz
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 7 for size 8 to 10 (i did this size)
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 8 for size 10 to 12
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 10 for size 12 to 14
cable needle (or one dp needle)

Right Mitten:

With double strands of yarn (i did single) cast on 30 sts.

(i cast on 30 sts and worked in K1, P1 ribbing for the first 3 inches [meaning i skipped the first part] and then switched to larger needles and picked up from the spot i indicate below)

Work as follows:
Row 1: K3, P2, K6, P2, K4; P1, K1, over remaining 13 sts.
Row2: K1, P1, over first 13 sts; P4,K2,P6,K2,P3.
Repeat above 2 rows working a cable twist over the rib of K6, on the 5th and every 6th row thereafter to tip of mitten as follows:
SL the first 3 sts onto cable needle and hold in back of work, K the next 3 sts, K3 sts from cable needle.

(I picked up here)

When piece measures 3 inches from lower edge, continuing cable twist work as follows:
Row 1: K3, P2, K6, P2, K17.
Row 2: P17, K2, P6, K2, P3.
Row 3: K3, P2, K6, P2, K17.
Row 4: P17, K2, P6, K2, P3.

Start thumb gusset as follows:
Row 1: K3, P2, K6, P2, K2, increase 1 st in each of next 2 sts, K13.
Row 2: P19, K2, P6, K2, P3.
Row 3: K3, P2, K6, P2, K2, increase 1 st in next st, K2, increase 1 stin next st, K13.
Row 4: P21, K2, P6, K2, P3.
Row 5: K3, P2, K6, P2, K2, increase 1 st in next st, K4, increase 1 st in next st, K13.
Row 6: P23, K2, P6, K2, P3.
Row 7: K3, P2, K6, P2, K2, increase 1 st in next st, K6, increase 1 st in next st, K13.
Row 8: P25, K2, P6, K2, P3.
Row 9: K3.P2, K6,P2,K2; place the 15 sts just worked on a st holder.
K the next 10 sts for thumb.
Place remaining 13 sts on 2nd st holder.

P 1 row.
K 1 row.
Repeat for the next 9 rows.
K2 tog 5 times
Draw remaining sts tog and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.

Place the sts from first holder onto lefthand needle.
Attach yarn and pick up 2 sts at base of thumb.
Place remaining sts from 2nd st holder to lefthand needle and work across row.
Work back and forth in pattern until piece measures 3 inches from base of thumb (size 10 to 12,3 1/4 inches – 12 to 14, 3 1/2 inches).

Decrease as follows:
Row 1:K1, K2tog, P2, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K1, P2,K2, *K2tog, K1; repeatfrom * across row.
Row 2: P12, K2, P4, K2, P2.
Row 3: K2, P2 tog, K2, K2 tog, P2, * K2 tog, K2; repeat from * across row.
Row 4: P9, K2, P3, K1, P2.
Row 5: K1; K2 tog across row ending K2.
Row6: P1; K2 tog across row.
Draw remaining sts tog and fasten off. Sew side seams.

TA DAAAA- you are done with your first mitten of the set!!!!! The second mitten was confusing to me but i think that's only because this was the first time i had to reverse a pattern haha....

Left Mitten:
Work to correspond to right mitten in reverse as follows:
Row 1: P1, K1, over 13 sts, K4, P2, K6, P2, K3.
Row 2: P3, K2, P6, K2, P4; K1, P1, over remaining 13 sts.
Repeat above 2 rows working a cable twist over the rib of K6, as given for right mitten.
Continue working in reverse to correspond to right mitten.
