The Time Will Come

I just saw this poem over at Undergradfab's blog and was so moved i wanted to share it with you guys too..... this is so beautiful... also the painting above is Renoir's "A Little Girl with a Watering Can" which I just love and wanted to share.

The Time Will Come
- Derek Walcott

The time will come
when, with elation
you will greet yourself arriving
at your own door, in your own mirror
and each will smile at the other’s welcome,
and say, sit here, Eat.
You will love again the stranger who was your self.
Give wine, Give bread. Give back your heart
to itself, to the stranger who has loved you
all your life, whom you ignored
for another, who knows you by heart.
Take down the love letters from the bookshelf,
the photographs, the desperate notes,
peel your own image from the mirror.
Sit. Feast on your life.

  1. Julie-- I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem! I was hesitant about posting it because I thought it may have been too personal or too unrelated to my blog, but seeing your comment made me so glad that I did! Isn't it so beautiful! Derek Walcott is an amazing poet. You blog looks great, too-- I love finding fellow knitters!
